Covid 19 community response

Grocery hub service

We are working with the Community response team for Covid 19 to help provide villagers with access to groceries and other basic supplies whilst we all work together to stop the spread of the virus.

The grocery hub service is working via a local supplier. You can place your order, then come and collect your items from us, or we can deliver if you are self-isolating/staying home to stay safe.

***NOTE - from Monday 22 June, this service will be once a week only. We will place all orders on Thursdays for delivery/collection on Friday. You must therefore phone your order through by 1pm ON THURSDAY each week. Many thanks!***

How it works

We can take orders for:

  • Fruit and vegetables

  • Some canned goods

  • Meat from Wares in Torrington

  • Eggs, cheese, milk and other dairy produce

  • A small selection of cleaning items such as sanitiser spray

  • Pasta, bread and some other dry store goods

***NEW ITEMS NOW AVAILABLE***

We have managed to source a second supplier who can provide us with:

  • Tinned foods

  • Cereals

  • Jams, pickles and other store cupboard staples

We are working on putting together a list, but in the meantime please just ask when you call!

Please note, stock levels vary from day-to-day: we'll let you know if we're aware of out of stock items, or try and source your order from another supplier.

How to order

  1. Phone your order through to us on 01805 938285 or 01805 623157 by 1pm on THURSDAYS.

  2. We will order your items for next day delivery (Friday).

  3. We will pick and pack your items, then call you to say they're ready for collection (or delivery if you're self isolating).

  4. We will take payment by card over the phone.

  5. If you are collecting, we'll give you a time-slot so we can maintain social distancing. Please come to the car park at the rear of the pub and we'll leave your items on one of our tables outside to pick up.

We are offering this as part of the volunteer response effort. We have volunteers in the village who are happy to help us get these products to you as safely as possible. They will be maintaining very high hygiene standards when handling the shopping. However, we also advise you to sanitise all packaging before you take your items into your home, to be extra safe. Of course, if you are well and able, supporting local food businesses in our towns is also key and I know from visiting ourselves that the bakers, butchers and greengrocers in Torrington are continuing to trade as essential suppliers and have put excellent safety protocols in place.

Our volunteers are also able  to deliver the items where needed - please just let us know when you order if that's the case. If you are collecting, we will give you a time-slot so we can maintain social distancing protocols and do not have more than one person collecting at any one time. Where possible we will take payment by card over the phone, as this is recognised as safer than handling cash. We have updated our card machine to enable this.
