Welcome to

The Bell Inn

Good pub grub and great ales in a traditional thatched inn

The Bell Inn is a 17th Century pub, nestled in the North Devon Countryside in the village of Monkleigh. The River Torridge, Tarka Trail and market town of Great Torrington are nearby, not to mention the North Devon coastline. We pride ourselves in serving good pub grub in a traditional setting, with a large garden with fabulous views!

Covid 19 response - we are now closed until further notice to follow Government guidance.

We have taken the decision to not offer a takeaway service now that Government advice has escalated regarding staying at home.

We will continue to work with the Covid-19 community response team to help get groceries and other basic supplies to Monkleigh and surrounding villages.

Please see our information on this service here.

Good pub grub

Our approach to our food is that good, freshly prepared pub grub shouldn't cost the earth! All our menu choices are carefully prepared by our chef from smaller bites to big hearty meals for larger appetites!  We source locally whenever possible, with meat from our butchers in Torrington, fresh produce from local farms and fabulous Devon ice cream. We offer a good choice of dishes and regular weekly specials, including a traditional Sunday Carvery.

Real ales, good wines, great spirits (and fab coffee!)

Of course a pub isn't a pub without well kept real ales and ciders so we always have a selection available. We're big wine fans ourselves, so we source some lovely ones from our local merchant. Then there's the spirits - we offer a wide range of tipples including gins, rums and some extra special single cask whiskey. And we also know it's not all about the booze for everyone, so we stock non--alcoholic options and pride ourselves in delivering a proper coffee, freshly made from bean to cup.

Dogs, muddy boots and plenty of hoots

That's hoots as in 'having a hoot' as opposed to owls. Our dog-friendliness levels are regularly tested by our resident pub dog, Patch, who has very exacting standards on comfort and suitable treats. We're a short ride or walk from the Tarka Trail and on the A388. We have a good-sized car park and south-facing garden.
